Let Ayla Canoes stay at Pitt Lake

Ayla Canoes Sales and Rentals Ltd. have been renting canoes from Grant Narrows Regional Park for 20 years. When Mr. Williams first purchased Ayla Canoes, the park was run by Dewdney Allouette Regional District (DARD). The contract was eventually taken over by Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) or Metro Vancouver and Ayla Canoes continued to rent canoes successfully until now! GVRD’s lease from the Province, for Grant Narrows Regional Park, expires on December 31, 2009. When the lease is up, they may or may not have a short continuum until the Province can take over. GVRD has informed Ayla Canoes directors that they no longer will allow Ayla Canoes to lease the beach front area to rent out their canoes and they must vacate the property by December 31, 2009. Ayla Canoes has allowed hundreds of people a chance to enjoy the serene Widgeon Creek and the free campsite that you can only get to by non motorized boats. They have schools that come every year and some come twice a year. They have been a recognized as one of the few, successful, outdoor facility in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows area. We are asking for your help today. By signing this petition, you agree that you would like Ayla Canoes Sales and Rentals Ltd. to continue to run and operate the canoe business at Grant Narrows Regional Park. You also believe it is of the best interest for GVRD, the Province and the community, for this company to continue the lease, as they have done a good job. They have provided a great service to Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and many other areas in the lower mainland. They have also provided service to people from all over the world.
