WHEREAS Wajid Khan, a Toronto area business person, who twice ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the federal riding of Mississauga--Streetsville, and,
WHEREAS Wajid Khan identified his politics to potential electors by fully and publicly supporting and endorsing the policies of the Liberal Party of Canada, and,
WHEREAS Wajid Khan promoted his candidacy by relying not only on his own attributes but also the unqualified support of the Liberal Party of Canada for his candidacy including endorsements from senior Liberal politicians including then Prime Minister Paul Martin and then Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, and used his association with the Liberal Party of Canada to promote the worthiness of his candidacy, and,
WHEREAS the riding of Mississauga--Streetsville and the ridings from which it was made up prior to its constitution in 2003 has not sent a Conservative politician to Ottawa to represent the region in the House of Commons since 1988, and,
WHEREAS Wajid Khan, having twice run as the Liberal candidate for Mississauga--Streetsville and twice been elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal member of the House, and having announced on January 5 2007 his resignation from the Liberal Party of Canada to join the Conservative Party of Canada, without the foreknowledge or approval of his electors, has effectively disenfranchised his electors as a result of his undemocratic decision and thus he has no moral mandate to represent his constituents in the House, therefore,
WE THE UNDERSIGNED Canadian citizens from across the country, regardless of which or any political party we may support, demand that Wajid Khan immediately resign his seat in the House of Commons and demand that the Prime Minister call a by-election for the riding of Mississauga--Streetsville, to be held at the earliest possible opportunity, in order that the people of the riding be provided with the opportunity to decide in a democratic manner which candidate of which party has the legitimate mandate to represent them in the House of Commons.
