ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!
Want to stop congestion in our cities? Good. This is how you you really go about it:
1. Make public transport efficient, affordable and suitable for all commuters to use.
2. Extend the MetroLink system so that it services ALL of Greater Manchester, not just a fraction of it. The East ands souh of the county still don't have it below Trafford, and the much-vaunted Eastlands regeneration zone still hasn't got the promised MetroLink station it wa spromised for the middle of 2004!!!!!
3. De-incentivise road offenders by ramping up fines and imposing hard labour on those unlicenced, untaxed, uninisured and illegal drivers, most of whom probably can't even speak a word of English. Yes the Home Office may very well whinge about the prisons being full, but there's nothing that a 10-hour day of forced labour for offenders repairing roads and road signs etc. can't put right. Jail is a last resort: giving something back to the decent citizens of our communities and teaching yourself a touch of self-discipline can only be a positive thing, right?
