In Canada, the statistics for sexual violence is very alarming. 1 in every 4 females will be sexually assaulted before her 18th birthday. 1 in every 6 males will be sexually assaulted before his 18th birthday.
Currently, the law in Canada is: "Every one who commits a sexual assault is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding eighteen months."
what is missing from the above? A minimum sentence! This petition is to encourage the Canadian Ministry of Justice to amend Section 271 of the Canadian Criminal Code to include a MINIMUM SENTENCE OF 2 YEARS
