N2 Road Closure, Emyvale - Monaghan

 

Progress always comes at a price and the construction of the new road from Monaghan to Emyvale is coming at a huge price and maybe for some the final straw in these recessionary times. From February 18th it is planned that the Monaghan to Emyvale road will be reduced to a one lane Northbound and will remain so for at least 5 months. However John McMahon, John’s Plaice, realised that he would likely be put out of business if traffic from the North (Northern Ireland and Donegal) was prevented from coming through Emyvale and once they got into the habit of using other routes and other services it would be almost impossible to get them back as customers to the businesses of Emyvale and Monaghan town.   We suggest that everyone living in North Monaghan and Monaghan town should sign this petition as everyone is going to be effected. Traders, sporting organisations, schools, community groups, factories, emergencies, and every household will face problems during that 5 month period and for some these problems could be terminal - yes it is that serious. We were trying to get the Council to repair the Main Street, which is in an awful and unsafe state (Health and Safety risk) due to the heavy traffic, which has been compounded by the extra heavy lorries using it to draw filling to the new road. We were trying to be patient but when we became aware of the consequences of the road closure to everyone that fades into a more minor detail, though still a health and safety issue.   There are so many ways that this is going to effect YOU - YOU must read this document and YOU must sign this petition, tell your friends and neighbours that they must sign this petition, get in touch with your local councillors and ask them to get it changed. Do what you think will put pressure on the Council to renegotiate with the Contractor on an alternative method of getting the work done without causing such an impact on a community. Many other roadways, and some much larger than this one, have been completed with only a day or two of closures but 5 Months?
