COBH GARDAI STATION POTENTIAL DOWNGRADE - HAVE YOUR SAY - IT COUNTS
I suppose by now you've all heard the plans are afoot to downgrade Cobh Gardai Station to part-time hours. When this happens, and it's not far away, it's likely that Cobh will only be manned at certain times during the day. We will also lose many of the current Gardai members to other stations and Cobh will operate on a skeleton crew, (ie) a Sergent in charge and maybe one or two members. All other business will be decided in Midleton as Cobh will be without an Inspector and Superintendent. There really is no upside to this decision. Cobh needs to be policed 24/7 and with a full compliment of officers due to our population size. We live in a fast moving society and Cobh is no exception to this. I would encourage you all to voice your opinions via email to Alan Shatter TD, Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence whos email address is alan.shatter@oireachtas.ie with the subject line of something along the lines of 'Cobh Garda Station Downgrade'. No-one can dispute the fact that we need our full compliment of Gardai in a 24/7 manned station in Cobh. Thanks
