No Dual Citizenship for Mercenaries and/or Terrorists Fighting Canadian Soldiers on Foreign Battlefields

In 1993, in Croatia, a small contingent of Canadian peacekeepers dug themselves in between besieged Serbs and the advancing Croatian Army. They were attacked by the Croats, fought a bitter 18 hour battle, and stopped the advance. Not a single Canadian Soldier was killed. However among the dead on the Croat side were Canadian dual citizens, who had travelled to Croatia to fight a war in their home country. These “Canadian Citizens” engaged Canadian troops in combat, and the one’s that survived returned to Canada melt into obscurity and enjoy all the benefits of citizenship in this country. The same can be said of young jihadists, who leave Canada only for as long as it takes to quench their thirst for blood by killing Canadian Soldiers in Afghanistan. It is time that we demand that our goverment did something to prevent Canada from being a safe haven for holders of dual who travel overseas to make their way onto battlefields as enemies against our own Armed Forces. It is time that the Canadian goverment put laws in place that prevented these enemy soldiers and combatants from returning to Canada as Canadian Citizens to enjoy the freedom and social services accorded legitimate citenzens of our great country. Anything less is a dishonour to those who have died in defence of our peace and freedom, and those of the opressed throughout the world. DEDICATION: This petition is dedicated to the memories of Cpl Matthew David James Dinning (N21405994), Military Police Branch, a young soldier from my community of Richmond Hill, Ontario who was killed while serving his country in Gumbad, Afghanistan April 22, 2006 at the age of 23, and my Great Grandfather Sgt. James Hislop Cook, 20th Battalion, C.E.F. who was among the Canadian troops that battled to victory at Vimy Ridge in April 1917.
