No Maintenance of Effort Waiver

County Executive Jack Johnson is meeting with the County Council with a proposal to ask the Maryland State Department of Education for a waiver of the Maintenance of Effort for funding our school budget at least at the rate it was funded this year. County Executive Johnson is planning on taking an additional $23.6 million out of the Board of Education budget on top of the $36 million in cuts that have already been proposed. This may lead to layoffs, furloughs, increased class size and reduced services for our students.
