No Public Display of "E Pluribus Unum" Slave Monument

We oppose the location of the "E Pluribus Unum" slave monument on city taxpayer property and feel the City of Indianapolis should not be in the business of housing any negative images portraying any group of its citizens for the sake of artistic expression, particularly those who have been historically disenfranchised and oppressed.

We feel that the Cultural Trail is not an appropriate venue for such a strong political and polarizing image.

We oppose any sector of our society being portrayed negatively. The Cultural Trail is a bike and walking trail with no other ethnic-racial group's worse moment in American history depicted. Therefore, we ask, Why display African Americans history as slaves? There is nothing positive, empowering or uplifting about slavery, nor is slavery a culture" to be housed on this trail.

We suggest that this image be displayed at a museum where visitors can receive the appropriate information and education to process the artists concept and thoughts behind recreating another slave monument.

We feel that the one slave monument, already on public display in downtown Indianapolis, is enough!
