There is currently a lack of media education and this has led to a deficit in awareness about the media and how it works.
As a result, we are now looking towards a future where we as Canadian citizens are ignorant about media issues and the impact they have on us as individuals and on our democracy.
We cannot protect our communication rights as citizens if we do not fully understand what those rights are and what is being threatened in the first place.
The public needs to be provided with the information and educational tools necessary for understanding its rights and the inner workings of the media. This will enable Canadians to take informed action on media issues and enact changes.
As our Canadian public broadcaster, the CBC holds a responsibility to help Canadian citizens understand the media and how it works. It is time for the CBC to step up and offer media awareness and educational tools in its programming.
It is time to speak up and demand the media education we need to support our democracy!
