Petition to call an Emergency General Meeting to discuss the removal of the Men's Officer position from the TSDSU.

It has come to light in the last couple of days that there is no Men's Part-Time Officer position for this coming academic year (2014/15). This decision was made without the consultation of either the students or the executive board (the group of people that consists of the Women's Officer, LGBT, International etc etc) which in itself is an issue. Many students have found issues in the scrapping of the position such as:

1.  this years sabbatical team is female dominated and thus men will not have someone in the union to talk to

2. men suffer from their own set of oppressions at university and  by taking the position away we are essentially taking equality away

3. The whole point of having a women's officer is to ensure wmen's voices are heard, however, feminism is not about female supremacy but about equality, and therefore if such a stance is to be acheived, the presence of a mens officer is integral to this fight. You can ask for rights for one sex and not the other, that is sexism.

4. Alot of the issues that he women's officer has to deal with affect men too. Breast cancer, men have mothers, sistser and wives. This affects them. Rape. Men get raped too! Likewise, the campaigns the mens officer tackles affect women. the two roles should work together, equality is about inclusion not exclusion.

These are just some of the issue regarding the scrapping of the Men's Officer position, there are of course a lot more.
