PC David Rathband was shot and blinded by the gunman Raoul Moat in July 2010. David only survived because he pretended to be dead.
PC Rathband then set up a charity called The Blue Lamp Foundation. The charity was formed so that any serving emergency personnel injured in the line of duty could receive financial support. Something that David didn't receive, but even after his horrific life changing injuries he was thinking of others.
Sadly David lost his battle and passed away 1st March 2012.
We, the undersigned wholeheartedly feel that PC Rathband deserves proper recognition for the work he did for Northumbria police, his charity work to help others and his life changing injuries he sustained that dreadful day.
