Whereas the use of capital punishment can not safeguard against the murder of wrongly convicted individuals, and
Whereas the use of an irreversible punishment is irresponsible and immoral in the absence of infallible judgment, and
Whereas the death penalty does not deter crime, and
Whereas the people are not better protected by executing a criminal than they are by imprisoning him without hope of parole, which fact renders execution an excessive measure, and
Whereas the use of the death penalty pursues revenge at the expense of the sanctity of
life, and
Whereas the Kansas Supreme Court has already stated that only state legislative action will render capital punishment constitutional.
We the undersigned registered Kansas voters assert that the Kansas State Legislature should not re-address or correct the status quo in regards to the constitutionality of the death penalty in the state of Kansas now or at anytime in the future.
