Petition Summary and Background
Provincial Cuts to Charitable Gaming Grants for 2009-2010

To Premier Gordon Campbell, Minister Rich Coleman and the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia:

We the undersigned are deeply concerned with the cuts to Gaming Grants in the province of British Columbia and how it will affect our Communities.

We believe that the Charities and Associations have negotiated and complied in good faith with the government with regards to funding levels. We feel that the government has reneged on that agreement.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement the government had promised to:
X consult in a meaningful way with charities in the development of gaming policy changes that may affect charities
X consult in a meaningful way with charities regarding the form and content of gaming legislation before it is introduced into the Legislature

The signed Memorandum of Agreements

Between:
The B.C. Association for Charitable Gaming (BCACG)
-and-
The Government of British Columbia (the Province):

18th day of June, 1999
Memorandum of Agreement on Gaming Policy
Between:
The Charitable Bingo Association Committee of the Bingo Council of British Columbia
-and-
The Government of British Columbia (the Province):

Since the government appropriated gaming in British Columbia, all Charities have been fighting an uphill battle with continuous changes to the application procedure and use of funds just to continue the charitable acts, and activities they supply.

Bingo Affiliations need to be maintained as they are the conduit between the government and the charities. By use of e-mail; websites and association offices charities are kept informed.

We urge you return all grant funding levels to the Organizations inclusive of their terms.
