Pit Bull on death row needs our help ASAP!

My name is Jill Dulaney, I am an obedience dog trainer and rescue volunteer in Loudoun County, VA. Last Wednesday, Sept. 13th, there was a loose dog in my neighborhood, wearing no collar. He was a male pit bull as sweet as can be. He followed me and my dog home from our walk and I managed to get him on a leash and called the local shelter to pick him up. I know we have pit bull rescues in our county so I wasn't concerned he would either be claimed or rescued. I alerted one of the rescues he was there and told them to keep watch and rescue him if he wasn't claimed. I also posted signs all over my neighborhood.

I called today to inquire about him and he still hasn't been claimed, which I just dont get. So I told them I would get with a rescue and come get him myself. I was informed they will not adopt out pit bulls, he will be euthanized this Saturday, the 23rd! I don't know how I could have not known about this policy, shame on me. I am completely heartbroken, feel totally responsible for putting this poor, sweet, innocent dog in this situation. I thought I was saving his life by keeping him from getting hit by a car and giving him a way to be reunited with his family, and instead I gave him a death sentence.

I have contacted some rescue organizations to see if they can get him out and even wrote to 7 On Your Side to bring this disgrace to the publics attention. This is my last attempt to save him, as I have no other ideas of how to get around this ridiculous policy, which is posted nowhere I could find, I might add, and had failed to be mentioned by any of the people I spoke with when arranging his pick-up.

Please sign this petition to see if we can grant this boy at least a stay of execution, if not an exception to their rule and maybe a total change in their breed ban policy altogether. Hes a good dog and shouldnt be killed just by virtue of his breed. He will make some lucky person a wonderful pet if we help him.
