We the Global consumers of your goods and wares are here by petitioning all of the above listed companies, to request that Universal Media Disk (UMD) be opened to allow recording and re-recording for personal use.

We would like to congratulate you on an extremely successful product launch of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in Japan and currently in the United States. The demand for your product is enormous and your consumers are finally able to connect to your company again as an innovator and trendsetter. Your PSP is fantastic and your detail to quality is more present in this product than any have been seen recently. Again we congratulate you and a wonderful product.

Our petition stems from a bit of frustration. The PSP device is geared toward gaming and this we understand. What we are failing to see is why incorporate full Multimedia capabilities into your product and then limit the media to which it can be used. We feel that you are greatly limiting the success potential of your product by not allowing your consumers the capabilities of using a disposable media. The PSP has the potential of becoming one of the greatest portable media devices on the market, surpassing even the most successful products on the market now. Lack of large storage capabilities will hold the PSP behind other more singularly geared products (a.k.a IPod). We want to see the PSP in the hands of everyone, please consider this.

By opening the UMD for personal recording you could be essentially creating a completely new market. This market could be home players, personal audio devices, and more. UMD could replace the Compact Disk and DVD as the media of choice. You have a colossal head start by putting your PSP in over 2 Million hands. That is a huge slice of the pie. By allowing those people access to your incredible UMD you could start a whole new fashion in portable media. How many of those who own a PSP would then buy a UMD player for their home stereo system or $99.00 portable UMD player as a gift.

We are hoping that you consider allowing your consumers the option of purchasing a UMD recorder and opening a whole new media to the world there by increasing your market share.
