This is a petition started by several Environmental and Sustainability Students who attend Acadia University and are members of the Nova Scotia Environmental Network (NSEN) and of the New Brunswick Environmental Network (NBEN).
The federal government is cutting of funding for the RCEN after a long-standing, 34-year partnership. Not only is this unacceptable after such a long association, but it was also done without giving the organization a proper notice or even a valid explanation.
The RCEN is vitally important in many ways. It provides Canadians with an opportunity to network, to express themselves and to exchange information about environmental issues, including health and energy issues. The RCEN is much more than just an environmental organization. It’s a method of information exchange and a way of opening dialogue between individuals, communities and governments. The RCEN acts as a voice for over 640 environmental organizations and networks across Canada. For these reasons, the RCEN is keeping its doors open despite this funding cut.
However, With the funding that the RCEN did receive, they provided important funding to environmental projects across Canada. For these reasons, we believe that the RCEN deserves to have this funding reinstated.
