We, the undersigned residents of the 10th Congressional district, call upon our Congressional Representative, Mark Kirk, to oppose any attempts to privatize the Social Security system under plans proposed by the Bush Administration. Because he is a member of the Appropriations Committee, we feel it is most important that he define his position on this issue.
We further recognize that Congressman Kirk can take principled and independent stands on important domestic issues. He did so on the issue of embryonic stem cell legislation, and he can do so again on this issue by taking his lead from his constituents as opposed to the Republican Party leadership.
Lastly, we call upon Congressman Kirk to hold a public town-hall meeting in the 10th district well before any vote on President Bushs privatization plan is even scheduled in Congress. We have been told that Kirk has not yet developed any official stance on this issue, so we expect him to come to us, his constituents, for feedback on this matter.

Until we have viable ideas on social security, please leave things as they are. I don't believe privatization is the answer. When people are not familiar with investing, for the time being, the best idea is to let the money compound in government-style CD
