Press freedom under Hamas is limited in Gaza. On Tuesday 06/11/2007, Hamas executive militias stormed the house of reporter Hisham Sakallah, an editor of a local news Web site [which does not follow the Hamas line], and confiscated his computer and archives.
The Union of Palestinian Journalists condemned the raid on the home of union member Hisham Sakallah.
In a statement the union accused what they called "Hamas executive militias" of carrying out the raid after a series of threats from the spokesperson of the deposed Palestinian prime minister, Isma'il Haniyeh.
According to the statement, Journalists have endured harassment, threats, beatings, blackmailed and under fire from Hamas in retaliation for their coverage of Palestinian politics on a daily basis.
