Prevent Demolition of the Kappa Sigma House

PREVENT DEMOLITION OF THE KAPPA SIGMA HOUSE !

THE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE SIGNED THIS PETITION AGREE WITH PREVENTING THE DEMOLITION OF THE FORMER KAPPA SIGMA HOUSE AT 1503 E 3RD ST, INDIANA UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, BLOOMINGTON, IN.



A recent demolition notice from IU to raze the former Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 1503 E. Third Street on the IUB campus has prompted an immediate need for concerned members of the Bloomington and campus communities to speak out.

Built in the 1920s, the three-story French-Norman style brick house is part of a demolition plan by IU to make way for apartment-style housing.

The house, located at 1503 E. Third St. in Bloomington IN on the IUB campus, was a venue where Kappa Sigma member and jazz icon Hoagy Carmichael performed.

Current goals have been motivated by the immediate need to establish a conversation with the university to prevent demolition. Options other than demolition that complement Indiana Universitys objectives may include solutions such as incorporating the Kappa Sigma house into their plans for apartment-style housing. Specifically, the goals include:

1. COLLECT 1000 SIGNATURES by March 8 in a petition to prevent demolition

2. FILL 150 SEATS at the next Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission meeting that will discuss the fate of this building
