After WWII the international community pledged never again would genocide occur. Yet it has. And it is occurring again and again. Genocide is defined as the systematic and planned extermination of an entire national, racial,political, or ethnic group. It has eight stages:
1. Classification. Dividing people into "us" and "them."
2. Symbolization. Giving names or symbols to the group.
3. Dehumanization. One group denies the humanity of the other group. People are equated with animals, vermin, insects, or diseases.
4. Organization. Genocide is always organized, usually by the state, though sometimes informally, or by terrorists groups. Special militias are armed and trained. Plans are made for mass killing.
5. Polarization. Extremists drive the groups apart. Laws are passed denying rights or forbidding social interactions.
6. Preparation. Victims are identified and separated. Death lists are drawn up. People are often segregated into ghettoes, forced into concentration camps, or confined to a famine-struck region and starved.
7. Extermination. The killing begins and quickly escalates.
8. Denial. This follows the genocide. The perpetrators dig up the mass graves, burn the bodies, try to cover up the evidence, and intimidate the witnesses. They deny that they committed any crimes and often blame what happened on the victims.

* I will not stop my protests against a genocide until that genocide is stopped.
