All the players of World of Warcraft know that this particular game as several events based off of certain holidays known around the world. There are events based on Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, and other holidays. However, the GLBT Community of World of Warcraft would like to propose a new idea. This idea will help promote equality and tolerance, lower harassment, and raise awareness all the while giving the World of Warcraft players a fun event to go with it.
The GLBT Community and its supporters would like to propose an event based on Pride Week, June 19th through June 28th. The GLBT Pride Week is not simple week of flaunting homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexualism; it is a week established to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969. Those riots were the first actions taken against a government-sponsored system that persecuted the sexual minorities. That event also sparked the start of the gay rights movement all around the world. The week of June 28th is a historical date for both the GLBT community and the civil rights movement, and it should be recognized.
World of Warcraft has several hostile players and we, as a community, would like to see awareness raised about the issue of hatred towards the GLBT community and its supporters. We realize that some players have certain beliefs about GLBT people, however that is no reason to exclude an important historical event in the history of a minority that plays World of Warcraft just as frequently as others. There are people who don't believe in Christmas, Easter, and other holidays yet World of Warcraft still has events based off these holidays.
The GLBT community would like to see its historical and treasured event morphed into an event on World of Warcraft so that we, too, can celebrate what we believe in---our equality. We thank you for your time.
