Proper School Funding

Recently, the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District suffered a terrible blow. The town of Bridgewater refused pass a Preposition 2 1/2 override that would have produced $2.2 million to go to the town, $1.7 million which would have gone to the schools. By an overwhelming vote (2 to 1 ratio), the town voted against the raising of taxes to help the schools.
The results of this, of course, were catastrophic. Last year, the school received a warning that it could lose accreditation. The school now, after the failed override vote, is even worse. Over 50 positions have been eliminated along with all extracurricular activities, art, Latin, music, industrial education, and physical education. Only base acedemics are left, with an earlier release time.
This petition is an attempt to show the town and school committee that this cannot happen. Look at what we are losing. No one in this town applies for federal grants, like some of our neighbors. In fact, that position was removed several years ago. How can this be left to happen?
