On June 12, 2008 Ryan Shipp of Campbellsville, KY passed away after a motorcycle accident. He left the roadway, striking an embankment, and he and his motorcycle traveled approximately 130 yards. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered traumatic head and chest injuries, resulting in his death. This tragic loss was felt by many in our community. Ryan was an outgoing, jovial, kind, caring, fun loving person who was very easy to get along with and would do anything for anyone. As we mourn our loss, I hope that we can encourage change so that this does not happen to any more of Kentucky's children, parents, spouses, and friends.
Kentucky enforced a helmet law until 1998, at which time it was repealed. Since then the number of fatalities involved in motorcycle accidents has increased. Ten years is long enough for Kentuckians to go without a helmet law. The seatbelt laws are being strictly enforced as of the last year or so, why hasn't the helmet law been reinstated?
Please help me petition the Kentucky government to take action against the rising number of motorcycle fatalities and reinstate the helmet law. PROTECT OUR LOVED ONES
