We, the undersigned, as fans of the CFL strongly oppose the principle of selling the naming rights to the Grey Cup game and/or trophy for corporate sponsorship. We do not believe that it is at all justified to sacrifice the name of one of the oldest football trophies in the world in the interests of a few million dollars. Furthermore, we consider this a direct violation of a near-sacred institution amongst Canadians, and bowing to a troubling corporate trend. We do acknowledge the need for financial stability and maximizing income within the Canadian Football League, and the benefit that the suggested price figure - according to TSN - of ten million dollars Canadian would bring to the league, the member franchises, the union, and all associated with the above, but we do not feel that the short term payoff justifies the long term cost of losing the unique identity of one of Canadian Sport's most fascinating events to a corporate sponsor. Please abstain from selling the naming rights to the Grey Cup trophy and/or game in the interest of maintaining the integrity, sanctity and uniqueness of the Grey Cup.
