PROTECT THE SPANISH SALMON
We would like to manifest our complete disagreement with the model of fishing mismanagement that the Asturian Government wants to approve for the coming year. Scientific evidence shows that the Atlantic salmon populations in Spain are very reduced and in danger, reduction of fish habitat and overfishing are two of the main causes, for this reason the species is considered “vulnerable” by various controlling bodies such as the U.I.C.N (International Union for Nature Conservation)
Considering the critical situation of the Asturian populations we believe that it is completely irresponsible the proposals of augmenting the season and numbers that may be killed, at the same time limiting the catch and release, specially considering that the salmon fishing is done during the months when the Atlantic salmon is travelling to its spawning grounds.
