On 21st July, 2011, Kolkata TV, a Kolkata based Bengali audio-visual news media broadcast a spoof made on Sri Kabir Suman, one of the greatest singers-song writers-composers in the era of modern Bengali songs, and a Member of Indian Parliament under the current UPA government regime.
The way the spoof has been made, it is clear that it is politically motivated, and harbors an intention to malign Kabir Suman and project him in a poor light. We fear that the spoof could be misleading to people who are not well-aware about the activities and political/social stand of Kabir Suman.
The spoof maligns the pro-people demands Kabir Suman is constantly making and thus insults the legitimate demands of certain sections of Indian citizens. We call for a ban on these kinds of offensive and vindictive acts from a media house.
