For years, Freemasons have quietly worked behind the scenes to help millions of others less fortunate: widows, orphans, students, the elderly, and those suffering from sickness or distress. Yet, in recent times, our membership has declined due to, in part, false perceptions about our fraternity. The misinformed have ridiculed us and questioned our integrity. I believe this is our own fault for not being as visible as we should. Are we ashamed of the principles for which Freemasonry stands? Was there something wrong with the obligations we took? I think not. Quite contrary, I am proud of my affiliation with Freemasonry. I am proud of my Masonic heritage. And, by signing this Internet petition, I want to see Freemasonry step out of the shadows and into the light by boldly proclaiming to the world that "I am proud to be a Mason."
