Ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child

We, the undersigned, represent young people and adults from different walks of life. However, we have one thing in common. We want the United States of America to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The CRC is an international document that defines the rights to which all children under the age of 18 are entitled as citizens of the world. As of March 2010, 193 countries have ratified the Convention. Only the United States and Somalia have not ratified this very powerful document. Last November, Somalia pledged to ratify the CRC. Now it is time for the United States to take a stand.
This document sets standards for protection of the rights of children in all nations. Keep in mind that the people who would benefit from the ratification of the CRC are the future leaders of the world.
It is a fact that America is an influential and leading world power in the fight for human rights. Americas ratification of the CRC would send a powerful message to the world the message that the United States is committed to protecting the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of children.
Today, we strongly urge that you, as our Representatives, ratify this critical document. The lives of millions of children are in your hands.
