Shawn Elliott has quickly become an integral part of Electronic Gaming Monthly and the Ziff Davis online community. His layoff, while likely unchangeable, has been met with a general sense disdain amongst subscribers and forum-goers alike.
Frankly, it's incomprehensible to think that getting rid of writers is a good way to save money at a magazine, and unfortunately this seems to be the underlying reasoning behind the layoffs. How are consumers expected to continue consuming without content? How are writers expected to continue writing with constant loss of morale and manpower? Surely, there is a more sensible way to cut costs.
As one of the finest writers at EGM and one of the few editors that took his own personal time to answer questions and leave comments at the EGM forums at www.1up.com, Shawn endeared himself to many people. We, the undersigned, would just like to make that fact clear to the leadership at Ziff Davis Media and ask them to reconsider.
