Reform Massachusetts' CORI Laws

Whereas the laws governing criminal record information were originally written to protect the privacy of ex-offenders; and
Whereas the majority of employers now use CORI in deciding whether or not to hire applicants; and
Whereas 60\% of employers in a recent survey admitted that they would not hire someone with any criminal record whatsoever; and
Whereas the CORI prevents many families from living together due to punitive public housing regulations; and
Whereas housing and employment are the two most important factors in a person's ability to build a positive, healthy, crime-free existence;
Therefore, we the undersigned urge the Massachusetts Legislature to reform the laws governing CORI to reduce its overuse and misuse.
