Repeal Pender County Dress Policy

The Pender County Schools idea for creating a better environment for its students is unjustified. The dress code they are attempting to enforce has no basis and was unjustly brought about by overly zealous faculty and parents, with absolutely no input from the students.

Not only is this dress code unrealistic (just see what is available at local clothing stores), but it hinders the ability for students to develop their individuality. Pender County schools expect its students to act mature as we grow in our decision-making processes. It makes no sense that they then mandate the simple task of dress.

Understanding that specific extreme circumstances might need attention, we, as students, feel that these circumstances should be addressed at the individual level rather than expecting the total student body to conform to what a chosen few have decided is the best attire.

Students need to express themselves, whether it is through dress, music, art or actions. We are individuals! Allowing a chosen few from Pender County Schools to decide what we wear only sends a message that students are not important, nor are they capable of decision making. Explain how that policy would create a better environment!
