Request to the White House Correspondents Association Board to Grant the Front Row Seat at the White House Briefing Room to National Public Radio

We, the undersigned respectfully request that the White House Correspondents Association board consider giving the vacant front row seat at the Press Briefing Room to National Public Radio (NPR).
Consideration of which news organization should acquire the seat has recently devolved into unsavory debate between Bloomberg and Fox News. The location of the seat holds symbolic importance and we the undersigned feel strongly that it should be held by a news organization that exemplifies integrity, fairness, and a focus on professionalism. NPR's tradition of even-handedness and its independent, non-commercialized mission make it a clear choice for this coveted position. If the decision on which news organization should have the seat is to be based on merit, then there is no doubt that NPR is eminently qualified. Since 1970, NPR has provided the nation with the highest quality reporting and news analysis. Millions of Americans rely on its insightful and balanced broadcasts on a daily basis though the best and worst of times. As one of the great institutions of our nation, its qualifications for the front row position is clear and self-evident.
We urge the board to strongly consider National Public Radio for this position.
