Requesting the release of the Czech scientists Petr vбcha and Emil Kuиera (supported by the Czech Entomological Society)

Petition for the release of Czech scientists Petr vбcha and Emil Kuиera, based on argumentation of the committee of the Czech Entomological Society. Reacting to the present international discussion dealing with the detaining of Dr. Petr vбcha and Mr. Emil Kuиera by the authorities of India, it is instrumental to consider the following: both are full and active members of the Czech Entomological Society, continuously taking part in entomological investigations all over the world. The specialization of the world famed and renowned expert Dr. P. vбcha and his colleague Mr. E. Kuиera, excludes beforehand any commercial misuse of the acquired material. It is hard to understand that their scientific work is deemed criminal, based on possible misinformation and misunderstanding. Some of the press reactions dealing with this matter are bordering on sensationalism and are absolutely unacceptable. Without the hard work of professional and/or amateur specialists in the field, without their dedication and enthusiasm, the modern entomology, as well as zoology, as scientific disciplines, would not be able to properly monitor and assess both the short- and long-term changes that are happening in the nature of the planet Earth. The Czech Entomological Society, as a prestigious scientific body founded in 1904, stands firmly behind the two detained members, and warrants their high professionalism and hitherto integrity, as well as the scientific nature of the seized material. We confirm that the material was not acquired for any commercial gain.
