Residency Requirements for Adult Sports Participation in Arlington

We the undersigned would like to express our concern regarding the proposed new residency requirements for adult sports participation in Arlington.
Currently, there is a 50\% Arlington County resident requirement for athletic teams, with an additional fee of $23 per season for each non-county resident. I believe that the Arlington Sports Commissions proposal to increase the requirement of Arlington residents to 66\% and to raise the fee for non-residents to an extraordinary $50 per person is short-sighted and respectively request that this proposal be denied.
The new residency requirement will not only make league fees unaffordable to many, but teams will likely have to cut players and long time friends to recruit new Arlington-resident players just for the sake of meeting the requirements. I would be remiss if I didnt remind you that our league is administered by volunteers. Some of these volunteers no longer live in Arlington, but have continued to serve and volunteer in the county. Many players who have joined our league as Arlington Residents and have since moved. They come back year after year to play soccer with teams and friends they have been dedicated to for many seasons. It would be a slap in the face if we told them they are no longer allowed to play in Arlington.
This rule would affect us personally, our league, and the county in a negative way.
Many have expressed that the sole reason they frequent Arlington is to participate in sports. Playing sports once or twice a week in Arlington is also the only reason why they eat in Arlington restaurants, hang out and throw team parties in Arlington bars, and shop at Pentagon City and other Arlington stores, as opposed to those much closer to home. This proposal is just bad news for everyonethe Arlington Sports Commission, the City, its small-businesses and loyal visitors.
For the sake of Arlington and the dedicated soccer players of ACK, please do not enact this new residency requirement.
