Return Star Trek to its Rightful Place in American Culture

As we approach the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek I would like to express my extreme disappointment with Paramounts handling of all things Star Trek. You are not only missing incredible financial opportunities, but also killing a valuable icon of American pop culture.

To put it simply:
The Star Trek web site is completely worthless in its current state.
The forced shut-down of fan sites was short sighted.
The availability of Star Trek memorabilia is scarce.
The continued promotion of Star Trek in all its forms is non-existent.

Here are my suggestions for ways in which you can not only raise revenue, but also return Star Trek to its rightful place in American culture.

Allow authorized/managed fan web sites with required links to Paramount.com. This would:
-Provide an outlet for fans which maintains and generates new interest in Star Trek.
-Promote your products at no cost to Paramount.
-Allow you to charge a fee for access to special features on some sites.
-Provide a marketing base for other Science Fiction/Fantasy offerings from Paramount.
-Provide the best content/features at little or no cost to Paramount.

Market Star Trek items via a major online retailer.
-Reproduce the classic TOS items and new items for sale via Amazon.com or other equally popular site. TOS uniforms, toys, figures, etc. are very difficult to come by. Amazon or another internet vendor can reach fans world wide.
Produce Direct to DVD Star Trek episode written by fans.
-One of the reasons for the demise of later incarnations of Star Trek can be linked to the professional writers who strayed from the classic style. The Star Trek Universe is known and loved by true fans. The watering down of that Universe in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience clearly did not work. Quality fan work is plentiful and cheap. Its an incredible resource that Paramount has failed to tap.
-Produce animated films/shorts rather than live action to reduce production costs.
-Once these shows have proven to be successful they can be released as movies or sold to cable stations (like the Sci-Fi Channel).

It is my sincere desire that you would implement some of my suggestions. I look forward to seeing new Star Trek products (shows, movies, toys, games, etc.) from Paramount in the near future.
