safe and healthy parks

(A Toronto wide coalition of park users including responsible dog owners)
Children and youth need a safe and clean area for active play. Off-leash dog areas must be physically separated from other park uses. Current city guidelines (1998) regarding off leash dogs need to be respected.
We endorse Play at the Park in their efforts to make sure that the off-leash policy is properly implemented. In particular, we would like to be re-assured that
- public health is directly involved in any off-leash policy to ensure the health and safety of children and the vulnerable.
- any changes to current or new off-leash policy meets the highest international standards such as Chicago and New York or even neighbouring cities such as Markham and Ontario.
- the City office will research and acquire new vacant lands as mentioned in the current city policy
- City Hall is serious about by-law enforcement. Play at the Park recommends at least one by law enforcment officer for every two wards financed through licensing fees and dog walker fees.
