San Francisco Chapter of Graduate Women In Science

This is a petition for the formation of a San Francisco Bay area chapter of the national organization Graduate Women In Science. My goal in initiating this local chapter will be to help foster career development, networking, and collaboration opportunities for women in science in the San Francisco Bay area. If any graduate students, postdocs, research personel, or faculty are interested in becoming members, please sign this petition.

"GWIS is an inter-disciplinary society of scientists who encourage and support women to enter and achieve success in science through full participation in their scientific research and its applications; in the development and advancement of women; in the integration careers, personal goals, and society's needs; and by professional networking and mutual inspiration."

Anyone who fulfills the following requirements can be a member: "Any woman who holds a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent degree from a foreign institution, who is or has been engaged in, or is registered for research in one of the mathematical, physical, biological or any discipline in which the scientific method is employed, and/or who supports the objectives of the Organization, shall be eligible for membership."
