Sanctions Against Genocide in Sudan

The Sudanese Government, using Arab "Janjaweed" militias, its air force, and organized starvation, is deliberately and systematically killing the black Sudanese of Darfur.
The United States has declared that genocide has occurred in Sudan's Darfur region and blamed the Khartoum government and Arab militias for the crisis that has killed close to half a million people and driven more than a million others from their homes. The displaced people also face death from starvation and disease as the Government and militias attempt to prevent humanitarian aid from reaching them. The same forces have destroyed the people of Darfur's villages and crops, and poisoned their water supplies, and they continue to murder, rape and terrorize.
We the undersigned request African governments to collectively prevail upon the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council to institute sanctions against the government of Sudan as a matter of urgency.
This petitions sole purpose is to try to save lives by helping stop the genocide in Darfur. The situation in Darfur is dire. The choice we face is simple. Act now to help save lives and stop the genocide, or watch as another chapter of injustice, cruelty and tragedy gets added to human history. Lets learn the bloody lessons of Rwanda, the Holocaust, and Armenia. Let's make sure the summer of 2004 is not one that we remember and regret.
