The City of Dallas and the Uptown Public Improvement District have plans to abolish all nightly sports league play at Griggs Park by removing the field lights by September 1, 2010. Some local home owners have pushed these two groups to beautify the park with little input from other people, like sports league participants, that use the park on a weekly basis.
Obviously the park needs to be improved but removing the fields and lights will severely limit the ability of the City of Dallas to provide enough nighttime fields to accommodate the demand for those that wish to play league games. We feel this plan does not reflect the wishes of the vast majority of the users of the park, Uptown residents, and Dallas residents.
We ask for you to voice your support to keep the field lights and nightly sports league play to the City of Dallas and Uptown Improvement District. The fields at Griggs Park are vital to the Uptown community and the City of Dallas.
