Petition to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia
We, the undersigned residents of the Province of British Columbia, draw the attention of the Legislative Assembly to the following;
Whereas Bill 18, The Coastal Ferry Act was drafted and enacted with no public consultation process, and
Whereas many sections of Bill 18 are not representative of voters views regarding public service delivery, and
Whereas Bill 18 contains no section giving voice to Ferry Advocacy groups wishing input into policy decisions, as they have had previous to the enactment of this Bill, and
Whereas Bill 18 strips workers of rights, contrary to the values of our society
Therefore, we call upon the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to;
Enter into an open, public consultation process to evaluate the wishes of the electorate, regarding Bill 18, The Coastal Ferry Act.
Amend or repeal Bill 18 entirely, based on the findings of the public consultation process.
Immediately suspend all actions and revoke all orders, which are attempting to dismantle, privatize and further contract out our provincial ferry services which are part of provincial transportation infrastructure.
