Save Professor Betsy Walits

We, the undersigned, acknowledge that there is a serious retention problem at Purdue University North Central and within the business department in particular. We believe that the business department has the worst retention rate on campus. We believe that the number of law majors/minors is higher than many of the other business majors/minors. As evidence of this fact, we submit that almost 60 students have taken the capstone course in this new major since it was approved only one year ago! Knowing this, we believe that it is a serious error in judgment not to renew a contract for someone who has created the law major/minor, has regularly completely filled classes, who is responsible for recruitment into the major, who is a significant individual in retaining business students, and is also instrumental in retention of female and minority students. We request that Purdue University North Central make a serious commitment to student retention by extending Professor Betsy Walits contract in order to allow her to complete her probationary period and apply for tenure and promotion in the usual manner.
