There has been rumor that Professor Douglas Feith's term is not being renewed due to pressure from certain members of the Georgetown faculty. In his remarks at Professor Feith's book signing, Dean Gallucci noted that Professor Feith's student evaluations have been nothing short of exemplary. The retention of a professor should not be a political issue. We do not want to lose a preeminent foreign policy scholar to another university and jeopardize our status as the nation's preeminent government and foreign policy institution. Whether or not you agree with Professor Feith's views, a proper Jesuit education demands an exposure to varied and opposing positions. We believe that this principle is being violated by the University's refusal to rehire Professor Feith. We urge Dean Gallucci and the rest of the hiring committee to reconsider their refusal to extend Professor Feith's contract.
