On May 3 2010, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority shut down the Health Contact Centre, operating in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver (DTES), without any notice. The Health Contact Centre provided critical and essential health care as well as an all-night community drop-in. These services are not available anywhere else in the DTES, especially at night time when the the community clinics and other drop-ins are closed. The closure of the Health Contact Centre is a major loss to the DTES and we demand that funding be re-instated and the Health Contact Centre be re-opened immediately. Save the Contact Centre, the Contact Centre saved lives!
