We do not accept the current proposal for the library budget as submitted to the Oakland City Council.
We understand that in these tough times budgets may need to be cut. However, we share an exceptionally gifted, active, and vibrant environment in the Bay Area, which cannot be deprived of a core community service.
Cutting branch hours and service offerings in ANY community is unacceptable. Each library branch delights, inspires, and informs their unique neighborhoods.
We do not have all the answers with regard to budget balancing but we, as Library Advocates, are willing to stand WITH you to wrestle a solution from the chaos. You are not alone in this struggle!
Our libraries are a primary source of global discovery, key resources of knowledge and information, and a haven of safety and security.
