Dear Professor Williams,
I support a Charter of Rights for Victoria because it will guarantee the human rights of all Victorians. The protection of freedoms of thought, expression, religion and belief; the rights to non-discrimination and equality before the law; and the right to participate equally and actively in the political and social life of the Victorian community are fundamental. They are basic to Australias tradition of providing everyone with a fair go. Australia is the only Western country without such a Charter. I ask that your Committee recommend to the Government that Victoria should take the lead and adopt a Charter of Rights as soon as it can.
