Self-Advocacy Information and Training Center in New Hampshire

To Our New Hampshire Elected Officials in Washington, DC,

We, members and friends of People First of New Hampshire, the statewide self-advocacy organization, ask that you vote to include SELF ADVOCACY INFORMATION AND TRAINING CENTERS as part of the Developmental Disabilities Act.

The mission of People First of NH is:
We believe that people with disabilities should be treated as equals. We should be given the right to make the same decisions, and to have the same choices and responsibilities as anyone else. We should be allowed to make new friends and renew old friendships and be as independent as we are able. We should be able to live where we want to live and work where we want to work. We should also be included in society and not be singled out as being different. We will work to accomplish these ends in New Hampshire.

The Administration on Developmental Disabilities has an Act titled the Developmental Disabilities Act (DD Act) and it protects peoples rights. It is coming up for re authorization. As our representatives, you have the opportunity to help improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Up to now the money has gone to other state organizations and not directly to people with developmental disabilities and their state self-advocacy organizations. Please support the inclusion of, and, funding for SELF ADVOCACY INFORMATION AND TRAINING CENTERS as part of the DD Act. Do not vote for reauthorization of the DD Act unless it includes the Self Advocacy Information and Training Centers.

Our organization, People First of NH, is the only statewide organization led by people with disabilities. Your vote for Self-Advocacy Information and Training Centers will provide us the benefit of federal funds to expand our supports to citizens of NH who have disabilities and will allow them more opportunity to become fully empowered as self-advocates.
