Separate Sub-domains for British and American English

As explained in the Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_differences there is a considerable difference in spelling and idioms. While there is a relatively small gap between the two separate languages than for example Arabic and Russian, I propose the separation be made effective on the wikipedia.org website by having separate sub-domains for each language.
Writing from an American English users perspective, I constantly find my self want to correct spellings such as colour, aeroplane, arse, flavour and theatre. I can only assume a reciprocal experience from British English users coming across spellings like color, airplane, ass, flavor and theater.
The technical difficulty of this change should be minimal and as such at least a few Wikipedia administrators should be able to figure it out.
