Expert reports estimates that dust and disease particles coming from Teys Beenleigh, could affect to 18 kilometers+ in radius from the Teys Beenleigh Abattoir, this in population terms could reach out up to 400,000 people and put this population in harms way of Q-Fever.
Teys Beenleigh cattle yards have not been touched for over 30 years, they remain basically the way they were when first built back in the early 80s. They are old and represent the greatest harm to the general public.
Expert reports claim that although Teys do everything to protect their workers, but Teys do nothing to protect the surrounding public, the report goes on to imply no duty of care is extended to the surrounding public and that Teys did not have a effective process in place to protect the local community from the processing plant to the cattle yards.
Every other abattoir of Teys class in South East Queensland have kept up with safe practices and enclosed their cattle yards in massive sheds with air filtration systems with concrete flooring to eradicate Dust, Odour and Contaminates of Infectious Diseases, except for Teys.
If DERM, the Logan City council and Teys cannot guarantee safety to the surrounding public to the described area in the expert reports and beyond, the operation of the business must be closed down immediately.
