Whereas Sickle Cell Anemia is a red blood cell disorder that disproportionately impacts upon peoples mainly of African descent; and
Whereas Sickle Cell Anemia, a life threatening, inherited disorder, symptoms which include: severe abdominal and bone pain, joint swelling and pain, vasoocclusive crisis, organ damage and symptoms of anemia, conditions which are antithetical to a healthy work environment;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Ontario government immediately provide increased sickle cell research funding; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ontario government provide funding for a public awareness campaign around Sick Cell anemia; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ontario government provide mandatory newborn screening for sickle cell disease; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ontario government introduces special recognition to mandate that all Employers in Ontario jurisdiction provide all necessary accommodation for workers suffering from Sickle Cell anemia.
